Several options are presented to you by the SoftOrbits Icon Maker application. You can get started from scratch and create a new icon. You can select an image and use it as the basis for a new icon (you can also create a cursor from an image). You can select a file and extract an icon from that file. And last but not least, you can open an existing icon and edit it.

To install an application, you typically have to go through three simple steps: download an installer, run the downloaded installer, go through the instructions presented onscreen by a setup wizard. To install SoftOrbits Icon Maker on a Windows PC you will have to complete such a process. It won’t take long; it will go along smoothly and quickly.

By default, a Welcome screen is presented when you launch the application. Three sections are presented on this screen:
Actions – create new icons, create Windows icons from images, create ISO icons from images, create Android icons from images, create cursors from images, batch create icons.
Open – open an existing file, extract icons from files, recent files.
Tutorial – SoftOrbits Icon Maker home page.

The icon you’re working on is presented front and center on the application’s interface. A Colors Bar is presented o the right hand side. An Effects Bar, Tools Bar, and Toolbar are presented on the left hand side. From the View menu you can hide the Colors Bar, the Effects, Bar, and so on. From the Options menu you can change the interface’s language and you can disable the aforementioned Welcome screen.

SoftOrbits Icon Maker gives you an easy to use environment and all the tools you need to create icons. It’s sure to put a smile on your face, especially if you’re a developer who needs to create and edit icons.

Pros

Installing SoftOrbits Icon Maker will go along smoothly and quickly. The interface is easy to figure out; you can choose what elements are presented on the interface. There’s a handy Welcome screen that asks you what you want to do: create new icons, create new icons from images, create cursors from images, extract icons from files, open an existing icon.

Cons

The trial version has a limitation on saving images.
